The Pump House Epiphany

Updated: Aug 31, 2022

In my life, there came a time when I realized, "Beta grow up or else you will get your ass kicked by these bullies". Well, I guess I was right. This story is somewhat that kind. It was already established in the previous blog that I was a fat kid. I love those Hot and Steamy Chola-Kulchas. And how can I forget that Salt Lassi. Due to my uncontrollable habit of destroying food, I would get targeted by wannabes hunting for their next prey. Body shamed or outcaste, you name it. Some of us had gone through it. The struggle is real Bhenc**d. I was fed up of these incidents. But then I found a habit that really pushed me achieve my goal.

People often say, "Every cloud has a silver lining". I can agree on that as what came next wasn't imagined by many. A group of my friends used to play soccer at a local park, also called THE PUMP HOUSE PARK. I was called up one day just to play for fun by one of my friends. They used to play almost everyday. This group had highly competitive players. Two girls who would crush the opponents with their tackles, Quick mid-field guns and some of the top attackers of our society. Some representing their school at the Inter School level and other practicing in zonal competitions. I was a mediocre but was quick to grasp on the workings of the game. I was so dedicated that I used to run that mile everyday back and forth to play with them. As each day progressed, I saw a big change in myself. I was leaner, faster and an improved version of myself. But ever story has a challenge, and this one had it too.

A local group of boys once visited the Pump house to challenge us. The good thing about us was that we never backed out of a challenge. We started the game with 4-0 down. One thing about the Pump house - It never made us loose. The cuts and turns of that turf were imprinted in our brains like the back of our hand. We knew the in and outs of it. Our attackers were quick to reply and drew the match in no time. We had a continuous back and forth and were matching them eye to eye at 9-9. One of my team mates passed me the ball near half-line to see me getting tackled brutally by the opponent. It was called a foul and now I was up to take that free kick. I remember placing it in the top right and bringing my team ahead, The opponents were in disbelief and frustrated at each other. With no time left to spare, we were able to score another screamer and win the game.

No dream is too big. No challenge is too great. Nothing we want for our future is beyond our reach. In the pursuit of achieving a better body form, I achieved a bigger lesson. So, Never back down of a challenge. Because it is okay to loose to an opponent, but never loose to fear!

That's it Folks! See ya all next Friday!

STAY GALLANT!
